Sport Public Relations
During the second semester of my junior year, I was enrolled in a Sport Public Relations class. Throughout the duration of this class there was an ongoing assignment to create an organization from scratch and prepare to hold a press conference to announce our partnership.
From the beginning of class I was designated as a team captain. In having this title I was put in charge of drafting my group members in a sport public relations draft. After having drafted my other two team members, I was also the individual who was placed in charge of all the correspondence of our group with our governing body, which was another group from my class. Throughout this entire project the act of delegating different aspects of this project was something that I struggled with. By the end of the project, however, this was a skill that I had mastered.
The organization that we were assigned to create was a cruise line company that would partner with a Mixed Martial Arts fighting promotion group (another group within the class) to hold an MMA fight onboard. As part of the creation of this organization, we had to design both a logo and a website for the company. In addition to the two required parts of this project, we also created a blog, a Facebook page, a Twitter account, a YouTube account and a Gowalla account. These platforms were used to communicate with our target market in an effort to gain guests. We had to design a cruise ship, and create a cruise schedule and an entertainment schedule.
Planning was a tool we also utilized throughout this project. For example, we had to arrange times when our group could meet to discuss ideas and delegate work. This was also used in the organization of our final press conference, in obtaining panel members, educating said panel members, and effectively running the press conference itself. At the press conference itself, I used public speaking skills in order to present my portion of the presentation as well as acting at press conference moderator. Also, during the numerous presentations that were required within this class, the ability to think on my feet was utilized as I answered questions.
Below I have copies of the operations manual for Adventure Cruise Line, as well as the Ship Itinerary and a link to the Official Website for Adventure Cruise Line.
